Oliver Johnson (born Paris, 1957 - ) was the author of gamebooks 3 and 5 of the Dragon Warriors series, largely scenario books.
Style
Oliver is credited with the three scenarios of Book 3 and all of Book 5 and thus, perhaps, the maligned and last-created Elementalist profession (Book 6 coming out, it seems, before Book 5). Johnson's scenarios are seen by some as fairly prescriptive, as compared to the open-ended style of gamebooks co-author Dave Morris.Other Works
- Prior to the Dragon Warriors series - in the mid-eighties - Oliver authored several of the Golden Dragon gamebooks, one of which - The Temple of Flame - was co-authored with Dave Morris. Locations and concepts from The Temple of Flame would later re-emerge within the Dragon Warriors gamebooks and the Lands of Legend.
- Also in the late 1980s - it is not known whether it was before or after Dragon Warriors was published - Dave Morris and Oliver Johnson also co-authored another set of gamebooks set in the Lands of Legend, called Bloodsword. Geoff Wingate and Russ Nicholson contributed also, as they had in illustrating some of the Dragon Warriors gamebooks. The Bloodsword gamebooks featured just four adventuring professions: Enchanter, Sage, Warrior and Trickster (i.e. thief).
- Oliver has also authored the Lightbringer (1996-1999) trilogy of novels.
