Yamabushi

(DungeonMasterAlpha)

(in progress 22.02.13)

The Yamabushi , meaning "lies down in the mountains", is a mystic member of a religious sect (Shinto or Buddhism) living in mountains in Yamato, which also trains in combat skills. The legend says that they can internalize kami and heal whoever they find worthy and are also endowed with mystical powers. They usually live alone, although some of them formed confederations. Yamabushi are highly respected, but also feared. They only fight in self-defense (towards themselves or someone they protect)
Mainly humans can become Yamabushi, although if you one search in the most dangerous mountains, you could meet one of the rare few Elven ones.

Skills

-Yamabushi are trained in martial arts. Therefore, if they attack bare-handed, they can inflict (d6)3.
-Yamabushi, like Mystics, are endowed with Premonition* and Extra-Sensory Perception* (ESP*).
Pages 70-71 of Book 2 set out the rules for the Sixth Sense* of Premonition* and Seventh Sense* of Extra-Sensory Perception* (ESP*).

Armour Limitations

Yamabushi usually wear a black cap, a tunic and loose trousers. They are not used to wear armours.
As Mystics, they cannot wear magical armours and also suffer the same limitations as Sorcerers for fighting with heavy armours.

Spells

Yamabushi's spellcasting rules are similar to Mystics' ones. They recover their Psychic Fatigue at gyooten (dawn).

Level 1
-Mirage
-See Enchantment
-Suspended Animation

-Yin/Yang Healing:
The Yamabushi converts psychic energy into physical energy, releasing a powerful restorative force into his hands.
Whoever he touches next regains two Health Points. The spell will not increase his Health Point score above its normal level, of course.

-Walk between Raindrops: (2d6)
Allows the Yamabushi to walk under heavy rain or under a weak waterfall without getting wet.
The type of liquid doesn't matter much (water, acid or poison), but the amount of liquid and that it falls more or less vertically does.
